Amdanaf / About

Yr wyf wedi byw ar lethrau'r Berwyn yng Ngogledd Cymru ers 38 o flynyddoedd bellach, ond mae prydferthwch Eryri gyfagos yn dal yn dynfa fawr. Ardal swynol, ysbrydoledig a llawn sialens ydi Eryri wedi bod ar hyd fy oes fel artist a chrewr delweddau. I ddeud y gwir mae dylanwad y tirlun yn ystod fy mlynyddoedd cynnar yn dal yn gryf yn fy ngwaith heddiw. Mae agosrwydd y mynyddoedd i’r môr yn creu amrywiaeth aruthrol, wnai byth flino ar y golygfeydd ac effeithiau’r tywydd ar y tirwedd. Mae awyrgylch newidiadol y mynyddoedd, arfordir, rhosydd gwyllt, cymoedd, crawiau a waliau cerrig hynafol i gyd yn gartref i mi.  Cymraeg yw fy iaith gyntaf ac mae gwreiddiau fy nheulu yn ddwfn yn ffermydd a chwarel gwenithfaen Llanfairfechan yng Nghonwy.

Ar ôl gadael Ysgol Ramadeg Friars, Bangor, dilynais gwrs blwyddyn cyn-ddiploma yng Ngholeg Gelfyddyd Caerdydd. Cwrs Bachelor of Arts mewn Cerameg oedd nesaf yng Ngholeg Celf Longton, Stoke-on-Trent ac yna cwrs Dysgu Celf ym Mhrifysgol Lerpwl. Hefyd, yn ystod fy ngyrfa enillais Radd Meistr mewn Addysg ym Mhrifysgol Aberystwyth.

Yn 2003, oherwydd afiechid, yr oedd rhaid ymddeol o ddysgu ar ôl gyrfa llwyddianus o 36 o flynyddoedd mewn amryw o Ysgolion Cyfun yng Ngogledd Cymry.

Mewn llawer o ffyrdd, mae fy ngwaith yn ‘draddodiadol’ ac fel llawer artist arall o'm blaen ‘rwyf yn ceisio creu ‘awyrgylch neilltuol y lle’ yn hytrach na dim ond llun o’r olygfa. Byddai'n debyg o barhau  i ddefnyddio cyfryngau olew, acrylig a gwahanol ddulliau o argraffu. Yr wyf yn teimlo fy mod ar drothwy arddull mwy beiddgar ac arbrofol ac efallai mod i wedi cyfyngu fy hun yn ormodol i Eryri yn y gorffennol; mae’n hen amser imi symud ymlaen felly i orwelion newydd.

Mae rhai lluniau yn yr Oriel ddilynol wedi eu gwerthu yn barod ac mi fydd y gweddill o luniau gwreiddiol yn aros yn fy eiddo am y tro, ond, mae printiau cyfyngedig o safon uchel sydd wedi eu llofnodi ar gael. Defnyddiwch y dudalen ‘Cysylltu’ i wneud unrhyw ymholiadau am fwy o fanylion, prynnu, neu gomisiynau os gwelwch yn dda.

I have lived for the last 38 years on the flanks of the Berwyn range of hills but the greatest draw for me is still the beauty of nearby Snowdonia. It has enthralled, inspired and challenged me throughout my life as an artist and image maker. It is true to say that the influence of the landscape during my formative years continues to resound in my work today. The proximity of the mountain ranges to the sea results in a huge variety of scenery that I will never tire of. The ever-changing moods of the lanscape, coastal scenery, wild moorlands, wide valleys, slate fences and ancient stone walls are all home to me. My first language is Welsh and all my family roots, which go back hundreds of years, are deep in the farming and quarrying landscape of Llanfairfechan in Conwy, North Wales.

After leaving Friars Grammar School for Boys, Bangor, I completed a Pre-diploma course at Cardiff College of Art. This was followed by a Bachelor of Arts degree course in Ceramics at Stoke-on-Trent College of Art and a Post Graduate Art Teacher's Diploma degree at Liverpool University. During my teaching career I also achieved a Master of Education degree at Aberystwyth University.

In 2003 I had to retire due to ill-health after a long and succesful 36 year career teaching in several Comprehensive schools in North Wales.

In many ways my work is 'traditional' and like many other artists before me I endeavour to portray a 'special sense of place' which is beyond a mere representation of the view. I will, no doubt continue in this vein, but through the mediums of oil and acrylic paints and various techniques of printing I am on the threshold of a bolder and more experimental style. My work up to now has tended to be confined to Snowdonia; perhaps it is time to look for broader horizons.

Some of the original work on the Gallery pages which follow have already been sold but all other originals remain in my possession. Signed prints are available for most of the work on display on this website . Limited and non-limited edition prints are now on sale on ebay in the 'Welsh Art Prints' or 'Keith Morgan' categories. Please use the 'Contact' page provided to make any enquiries for more information, purchasing, or any requests for commissions. I will reply as quickly as possible.
